You Want Bookings?

I can't count the number of times I've had the following conversation with a professional speaker. It goes something like this:

"David, can you help me get more bookings?"

"Yes I can," I say confidently. "That's the primary objective of our organization. To help our members get more quality bookings."

"Great," they say. "Let's get started, then. When can you start calling on my behalf, and how many dates can you get me in the next month or two?"

"Well, it's not quite that simple," I mention, waiting for the expected response.

"What do you mean?" they often say. "People love me. I get standing ovations everywhere I speak. If you'll put someone on the phone to represent me, you shouldn't have any trouble getting me booked!"

I wish it were that easy. The truth is quite the opposite. Regardless of how good a speaker is, getting bookings is never simple. And what is even more frustrating to me and my staff is watching talented speakers spend time and money on marketing strategies that stand little chance of working.

I founded International Speakers Network in 1990 after learning how to generate millions of dollars of sales in the real estate business. As an industry leader, I was invited to speak and train all across the country. I discovered that the same marketing principles that propelled my real estate business were applicable in the speaking industry. There were no shortcuts, just logical "principle-driven" strategies that, if used persistently, creatively and over time, were certain to get results.
